An unconference right in Korea Town Los Angeles

Why do I blog this?  An event bringing back memories of fun unconferences where ideas are shared in a generative way with encouraging listeners and contributors.

Causal Islands LA was a fun, engaged, tight little unconference somewhere in Korea Town Los Angeles.

Causal Islands is about bringing together experts and enthusiasts from many different backgrounds and sharing and learning together. We are creative technologists, researchers, and builders, exploring what the future of computing can be. The LA community edition on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024 has themes of building and running networks together, exploring the future through creativity and poetics of computing, tools for thought and other interfaces for human knowledge, emerging and rethinking social networks, generative AI as a humane tool for people, and the journey of building a more distributed web.

Brad had mentioned it to me a few weeks ago. Never heard of them/it but they were looking for contributors and participants so I proposed a talk that I tentatively titled ‘The Future of Computing Is Fiction’

I basically showed up, a bit nervous because I didn’t know the crowd, but I know Brad so I knew it would be fine and it was more than fine — it was Fun.

It was an odd wet rainy day in Los Angeles and the roof had a little slow drip in it — we were in a lovely converted warehouse that was some operation’s studio, never found out who it belonged to.
