It looks like you type in an arbitrary two-character code printed beside each song title on the menu. For example “Indiana Wants Me” might be L2 while “You Light Up My Life” might be 51. This implies the letters “I” and “O” are excluded to prevent confusion with the numerals “1” and “0.” It’s a solution to a usability problem. “W” and on are excluded maybe because the system can’t handle over 900 songs anyway.
