Umberto Eco wrote a book about Beauty in the (East) Middle Age : before proportion, the main aim for artworkers was the Light (think about glasswork) and after it was something like spiral (spiritual wind toward an hypothetic heaven : strairs in baroque area).
This quote reminds me of the famous one : less is more (by an architect as well)</description>
