my name is Silvia Gaetti, I’m a curator at the GRASSI Museum of Applied Arts in Leipzig. I’m planning with a colleague a larger special exhibition with the title “FUTURES. Material and Design of tomorrow” which will take place from November 2024 to August 2025. The exhibition will have a focus on speculative, fiction design, relation of human and non-human, circular material, new material. We would like to include one of your work, the “kit of Design Fiction” in the exhibition (and give a chance to interact with it). I could either buy it directly on your online shop or we can have a video call and I can tell you more about the exhibition and we can see if we could exhibit something else with it. Look forward reading back from you,

The fascination with ideas about the future, visions and scenarios has always accompanied humanity. In view of the current global challenges, issues such as resource scarcity, the climate crisis and social and economic injustice dominate social perception. Designers and artists are therefore increasingly dealing with aspects of possible "futures". The plural reflects the options, scenarios and also a certain uncertainty with which we look at what is to come. Design has long ceased to be seen as a discipline of aesthetics and functionality. It looks for possibilities, researches systems and processes and is often open to results. The exhibition shows how design serves as a source of inspiration and can take on the role of networking between research, industry and society.150 years after the founding of the museumwe want to look at the role of design in the world of tomorrow. The exhibition is divided into three chapters and is devoted to themes of the distant and near future. WHAT IF... The first chapter of the exhibition shows positions from the field of art and design that make different future scenarios visible and tangible using speculative methods. Symbiotic, posthuman and interspecies relationships between humans and non-humans are the focus here and question the role and responsibility of humans within the ecosystem. This involves cooperation with microorganisms, living together with animals and plants or protecting people on Mars. Here one encounters not only post-apocalyptic futures, but also increasingly positive and desirable ones. Nevertheless, one thing is clear: human actions must change quickly and fundamentally.
