Sony Aibo story as the Walkman faltered so autonomous robot pets became the new must-have accessory. The Aibo was a hit, while the Sony Walkman sales forecast was a dumpster fire and nearly ruined Sony had it not been for the unexpected success of the Aibo. This lead to vigorous investment in autonomous and artificial intelligences for consumer products.

Descriptive Text
AIBO gains again as the appetite for companion intelligences in the form of the domesticated pet continues to grow. The AIBO line from Sony has dominated the marketplace for over a decade, with the latest models showing a 19% increase year over year in sales despite reports of safety issues and control model malfunctions in the 3900 series. The introduction of the much anticipated 4100 series has been a hit, with sales forecasts for the 4200 Home Security series having the prediction markets in a frenzy. The AIBO line has been a boon for Sony, which has seen its Walkman sales forecast plummet to near zero, nearly ruining the company had it not been for the unexpected success of the AIBO line. This effectively saved Sony from ruin particularly after its disasterous foray into filmed entertainment, a decision that had analysts puzzled particularly as visual storytelling moved from cinema to immersive. Vigorous investment led by Sony and the exponential increase in data sharing across BBS platforms and the interconnected consumer internet made technology advancements in autonomous and companion intelligences for consumer products practically inevitable. Besides the AIBO line, Sony has also seen success with its line of companion intelligence devices, and led the AIBO division to expand its product range with emotional support intelligences, home security, its PremiereCorpus™ line of home library agents developed in collaboration with Penguin Books, and children's educational intelligences. Jasia Reichardt, CEO of the AIBO unit, speaking with Kara Swisher at last month's Recode event, indicated that the unit was doubling its investments in companion intelligence, autonomous devices, and domestic appliances, with a particular focus on its oraculatory and predictive intelligence technologies. 'We have some truly exciting things in the pipeline,' Reichardt said, 'our Corpus technology group has refined its recog interfaces and, boy, when you sit with it and have a conversation with all of the books in your licensed subpak, your favorite entertainers, poets, it really is mind blowing. I can't wait to share this with the world.'
