The Project
SuperSeminar is the platform for Learning & Development I piloted in 2023 to expand and expose the Near Future Laboratory community of followers to Foresight, Futures, and Design Futures practices.
We bring in professionals from our expansive network to present short, evocative, activating experiences and perspectives in a salon-like context. I deliberately restrict the number of attendees to 16-20 individuals in order to allow everyone an opportunity to participate in the discussion, network, and relate to one another thereby allowing us to form community.
I think of SuperSeminar as the opposite of events like TED, where a large audience does not have the opportunity to engage in discussion with the interlocutors.
The Outcomes
SuperSeminar has been extremely successful, with every event selling all available seats — and then some as I accomodate special requests from emerging practioners and students.
In 2024, Season 02 had four Episodes with major figures in the foresight and futures practice realms from such organizations and enterprises as Mercedes-Benz, BMW Designworks, Arup, ARRI, PwC, Reddit, and notable independent practitioners like Scott Smith (Changeist) and Steph Clarke (28 Thursdays).\nSuperSeminar has also become a platform that has been brought into the enterprise for private sessions, effectively becoming a turnkey solution for organizations that want to offer a Learning & Development module for their employees.
