A talk at Los Angeles architecture firm Moore Ruble Yudell about the role of design fiction in architecture and urban design. The talk was part of a series of discussions on the future of design and its impact on urban environments. The talk focused on how design fiction can be used as a tool to explore and communicate complex ideas about the future of cities, architecture, and the built environment. It emphasized the importance of communicating vivid representations of planning to clients, and how speculative artifacts that imply life in this "habitats" can help architects and urban planners not only envision possible environments, and habitats, but effectively enjoin stakeholders who are funding such projects. The discussion also touched on the challenges and opportunities of integrating design fiction into architectural practice, including the need for collaboration between designers, technologists, and other stakeholders. THis talk is first in a series meant to find opportunities for collaboration between Moore Ruble Yudell and Near Future Laboratory, and to develop a shared understanding of speculative design, and develop a platform for masterplanning that involves deliberate and intentional speculative design and design fiction.
